Nervous About Tryouts? Read This ⚾
Welcome to The Baseball Players Newsletter on Substack. Thanks for being here!
What’s up?!
This time of year your season might be starting, you might be in tryouts, or maybe you’re getting ready for spring ball. Either way, I had a lot of tryouts in my career.
Some I performed really well at.
Some I didn’t.
I didn’t always make the team. But every single time it led to another opportunity.
Here’s what I learned. It’s not just about how you perform. It’s about the player you are.
🔥 Friday Fuel: It’s About Who You Are
Coaches are watching everything.
✅ How you warm up
✅ How you react after a mistake
✅ How you treat your teammates
✅ How you compete when things do not go your way
That stuff matters just as much as a big hit or a strong throw.
Baseball is a game of failure. You will strike out. You will make errors. It happens at every level.
The real question is not if you fail.
It is how you respond.
Do you drop your head?
Blame someone else?
Or shake it off and get ready for the next rep?
Coaches are not looking for perfect players. They are looking for competitors. Players who stay positive. Players who are coachable.
Remember this. It is not win or lose. It is win or learn.
Every rep is either success or feedback.
The player who handles failure with confidence is the player coaches trust. ⚾🔥
