One of the most underrated jobs in baseball is taking care of the field.
If you’ve ever been to a professional game, you’ve probably noticed how perfect everything looks. The grass is immaculate, the dirt is smooth, and the mound is in great shape.
Growing up in travel ball, that wasn’t always the case. I’ve pitched on rough mounds, played on fields with bad hops, and sat in dugouts that definitely needed some attention.
That’s exactly why I think it’s even more important to leave the field better than you found it.
It’s a simple way to show respect for the game and for the people who make it possible for us to play.

Respect for the game starts long before the first pitch.
