One thing I wish I understood earlier as a player is that progress doesn’t always show up in the box score.
Sometimes we get so focused on the big goals, making the team, earning a starting spot, throwing harder, hitting home runs, that we forget to appreciate the small wins happening along the way.
A great practice. A quality at-bat. Throwing strikes when you used to struggle. Encouraging a teammate. These things might not feel huge in the moment, but they add up.
The players who stick with baseball the longest learn how to celebrate progress, not just results.
